Fortresses in Rhineland-Palatinate
Frankenstein
![]() |
Frankenstein Castle is located on one of the most important traffic routes which leads from the main route Rhein – Kaiserslautern to the route Bad Dürkheim- Worms.
Today Frankenstein Castle is arranged in three levels which are nuzzling at a rocky cliff. Together with the crenellated entrance of the “Ludwigsbahn” (King Ludwig Railway) tunnel and the protestant church the castle offers a charming ensemble to the visitor.
Tip: Close to the Frankenstein Castle there is Hardenburg Castle, the ancestor seat of the lineage Leiningen. The visit of both castles or the visit of Frankenstein Castle and the defense-system around the former Palatinate Lautern (Nanstein, Perleburg, Beilstein und Breitenstein) can be easily combined.
